25 Passing Touchdowns
If Tua Tagovailoa appears in 14 games for the Dolphins, he’ll need just under two passing touchdowns per game to reach 25. While that number might seem high for a rookie, it’s within reach of a player with Tagovailoa’s talent.
At Alabama, Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide’s offense scored at will. In his sophomore season, Tagovailoa threw 43 touchdowns in 15 games. He topped that production as a junior, tossing 33 touchdowns in only nine games.
While scoring is exponentially more challenging at the NFL level than in college, we’ve seen high draft picks come in and produce solid touchdown numbers in the past.
Two years ago, Baker Mayfield set the rookie record with 27 passing touchdowns, and he accomplished the feat in only 14 games. Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson both threw 26 touchdowns as rookies.
Last season, Miami’s quarterbacks threw for 21 touchdowns. However, the Dolphins added a lot of offensive pieces this offseason. From retooling the offensive line to beefing up the running game, Miami prepared its offense for Tagovailoa’s arrival.
Tagovailoa has enough talent to reach the 25-touchdown mark. The only thing that could hold him back is the playing time he receives early in the season.
