3 reasons the Detroit Lions should trade down in the 2020 NFL Draft

Stacked DB Class

The 2020 NFL Draft class is rightfully being looked at as one of the best wide receiver classes we’ve seen in a long time. What gets swept under the rug a little bit is how strong the defensive backs group is as well.

Many mocks have the Lions taking a cornerback at No. 3 with Ohio State’s Jeff Okudah. He’s being compared to guys like Jalen Ramsey and Stephon Gilmore and is far and away the top guy at the position. Even if they moved back to No. 5 like stated earlier, there’s a very good chance they still snag him.

But what if they missed out on him by moving back? Luckily, the first round is littered with talent at the DB position. Guys like Kristian Fulton out of LSU or CJ Henderson from Florida are projected to go in the top 25 at the cornerback spot. Safeties Grant Delpit and Xavier McKinney highlight as the top options for the back end of the defense.

With Detroit trading star safety Quandre Diggs during the season and potentially trying to trade cornerback Darius Slay, they will need all the talent they can to rebuild the secondary. There will be tons of talent within the DB group in the top 100 this year, and trading back to acquire more capital within that range would help their team tremendously.
