1. His Ability To Play Inside Linebacker
Some fans don’t see the need to bring Clay Matthews back due to the way the defense is currently set up. Both Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith were monsters on the edge last season. Za’Darius Smith, in particular, is viewed as one of the top pass-rushers in the league.
However, Matthews has a history of playing some inside linebacker. He did it with the Packers just a few years back.
With Blake Martinez leaving town, the Packers are going to rely heavily on Christian Kirksey. Kirksey has a long injury history. Bringing Matthews back to add depth and playmaking at inside linebacker would make too much sense to not consider.
