3 reasons the Redskins should not give up on Dwayne Haskins

USA TODAY Sports

3. Lack of Starting Experience

With just one season as the starter at Ohio State, Haskins has 21 starts on his resume since high school. More specifically, seven NFL starts in a season where the Redskins had two head coaches and finished 3-13 is not good fodder for evaluation.

If Rivera is willing to give Haskins a clean slate, even in an open competition for the starting job where Kyle Allen can’t be dismissed, his upside gives him an advantage. Allen has only made 13 NFL starts himself, but his upside is nowhere near where Haskins’ is.

If a broad referendum was made on quarterbacks with less than 10 NFL starts, many all-time greats would never have stuck. Haskins is not necessarily a future Hall of Famer, but what he will be can’t be known yet.
