3. Chicago’s defense forced only 19 turnovers

Again, with Fangio calling the shots on defense, the Bears were an elite defense in the NFL. Besides holding teams to a low yardage total, Chicago also forced their opponents to a league-high 36 takeaways in 2018.

On the other hand, with Pagano, the Bears managed to induce only 19 takeaways on their opponents (22nd in the NFL). That is quite surprising when you consider how well Pagano’s defenses usually are at forcing takeaways.

For instance, the Ravens were 10th in the NFL in takeaways in 2011 under Pagano. Additionally, you would think a defense consisting of Eddie Jackson, Kyle Fuller, and Khalil Mack would instigate a plethora of turnovers.

Over the offseason, the Bears will undoubtedly want to get back to creating plays on defense. After all, it’s not going to be tough being better than they were this year when it comes to takeaways.
