2. How Will Cap Space Be Cleared?

Jacksonville is up against it financially right now, as they sit more than $3.4 million over the salary cap (according to Over The Cap). But even with some dead money hits, significant space can be cleared by releasing cornerback A.J. Bouye ($11.4 million), defensive tackle Marcell Dareus ($20 million), and wide receiver Marquise Lee ($5.25 million). Dareus technically is subject to an option for this year, which has to be activated by Feb. 25.

Defensive end Calais Campbell is a strong candidate for a contract restructure, with a $17.5 million cap hit for this year. But releasing him can also clear $15 million in cap space.

The Jaguars have to make some cuts to clear cap space, it’s just a matter of who is gone outright or who is asked to take a pay cut. It will be interesting, and some big names will be gone.
