Is embattled Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields finally breaking through? If his last two games were any indication, it looks like he is finally getting it.
During the Bears’ first win of the season over the Washington Commanders on Thursday night, Fields went 15-for-29 with 282 yards and four touchdowns, marking the second straight week the youngster threw four touchdown passes.
Pro Football Focus posted some outstanding statistics for Fields from the last two weeks, demonstrating just how effective he has been on deep throws.
Last weekend, Fields went 28-for-35 with 335 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in what ended up being a heartbreaking loss to the Denver Broncos. The Bears held a 21-point lead late in the third quarter but saw the Broncos storm back with 24 unanswered points to pull out a 31-28 win.
But now, Chicago is finally in the win column, and Fields may be in the process of erasing all of the doubts about him from the first several weeks.
These two outings came after a disastrous Week 3 showing in which Fields went 11-for-22 with 99 yards in a blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
On the season overall, Fields has thrown for 1,143 yards, 11 touchdowns and five picks while completing 61.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 95.4. He has also carried the ball 39 times for 191 yards and a score.
Obviously, Fields still has a long way to go to prove himself as the Bears’ quarterback of the future, but these last two contests represented a massive step in the right direction for the 24-year-old.
Justin Fields will look to build on his recent run of success when Chicago hosts the Minnesota Vikings next weekend.
