1. The Steelers’ Defense is Scary
Entering the season, it was clear the foundation of this Steelers team was going to be their defense. The performance the unit had against the Broncos displayed precisely why that’s the case after allowing just 19 points and making plenty of critical plays.
The Steelers’ pass rush showed why they are considered elite in this matchup. Led by T.J. Watt, who racked up 2.5 sacks, Pittsburgh frequently got to the quarterback and finished with seven sacks as a team. On top of all that, Drew Lock took a beating and was sidelined early.
The Broncos were held to just 5-of-15 (33.3%) on 3rd down efficiency and came up empty on both 4th down conversions they attempted. Additionally, the Steelers managed to force a pair of turnovers while containing Denver to just 1-of-4 (25%) execution in the red zone.
There are some areas where the Steelers could clean up on defense entering Week 3. However, the impact the unit had on this game was unquestionable and they showed off why the makings of a special group are present.
