Trent Williams

One of the newest names on the 49ers, Trent Williams comes to the Bay area as someone who was once one of the best tackles in the NFL.

That still very well could be the case, but Williams didn’t play at all last season, dealing with a cancerous growth in his head. It’s great to see Williams bounce back and get back on the field, but he has a large task in Week 1, dealing with the pass rush of the Cardinals.

Depending on how the Cardinals line up, Williams may be taking the brunt of Chandler Jones’ rushes. Jones had a career-high 19.0 sacks last season, the second-most in the NFL. He’s become an elite edge rusher and a nightmare for offensive lines and QBs, making it vital for the 49ers to keep him in check.

If Williams does get matched up with Jones, there’s a possibility he’s in for a long day. But if Williams truly still is the elite blocker that he once was, it’s a chance for him to flash that talent against one of the best rushers in the league.
