Byron Jones
There was a real effort from the Dolphins to improve in the offseason. The signing of standout corner Byron Jones was a real display of Miami’s intent to reinforce the defense to be more competitive in the 2020 season.
The hope for the Dolphins is that Jones will help them to better match up against the opposition’s No. 1 receiving threat. Being able to do so could throw an offense off their rhythm and put Miami in a better position to be able to pull off a win.
In the Patriots’ offense, Julian Edelman remains the No. 1 receiving threat and the Dolphins will need to neutralize his impact. Jones previously matched up with him in 2019 as a member of the Cowboys and Edelman finished with 12 targets, 8 reeptions, and 93 yards.
The Dolphins will need Jones to be able to better slow down Edelman this go around. If successful, it would put a lot of pressure on the Patriots’ running game and supporting cast receiving options to be able to step up.
