Cam Newton
The major talk surrounding the Patriots entering Week 1 of the 2020 season is the quarterback position. No longer is long-time starter Tom Brady going to be under center for New England. Now, it will be the recipient of. the2015 NFL MVP Award, Cam Newton.
There were no shortage of questions surrounding Newton after he was ruled out for the remainder of the 2019 season due to a foot injury. Being a mobile quarterback, there was added concern given the nature of the injury and the setbacks he encountered in recovery.
Now, Newton is fully healthy and will just need to keep it that way throughout the 2020 season. For the Patriots, having a quarterback like Newton provides a stark contrast in style from what they have grown accustomed to having in Brady.
There will be plenty of possibilities for the Patriots to get creative with their offensive system with Newton at quarterback. The Week 1 matchup with the Dolphins will be the rest of the NFL’s first-look at what all that may entail. If he thrives, New England could still be a real threat.
