The San Francisco 49ers’ roster is loaded with star players on both sides of the ball. They have been integral in the team playing at such a high level this season, as San Francisco is 11-3 on the season. The have already clinched the NFC West crown and are on their way to earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC as well.

A lot has gone into achieving so much already this season, but the work is not yet done. The 49ers have their sights set on a Super Bowl ring, which they fell short of last season because of injuries to their quarterbacks in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With Brock Purdy healthy, the 49ers are locked and loaded to make another deep run in the postseason. He is surrounded by elite weapons in running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk and tight end George Kittle.

But, arguably the most important part of the offense is the offensive line. If they weren’t winning in the trenches, the rest of the team would not be operating at the level in which they are. The anchor to that unit is left tackle Trent Williams.

The No. 4 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft is one of the most dominant players in the NFL along the offensive line. It should come as no surprise then that Matt Bowen of ESPN has selected Williams as the most explosive offensive lineman in the league.

“With a combination of explosive power and lower-body flex, Williams can erase defenders on the edge and move people off the ball. In his 14th NFL season, he has a pass block win rate of 95.3%, second among offensive tackles,” Bowen wrote.

Williams has made the Pro Bowl in 10 consecutive seasons, earning a spot on the All-Pro First Team in two straight seasons. Based on his performance this season, he is well on his way to an 11th and third straight.

Along with being the most explosive, Bowen gave Williams another accolade. In his opinion, the Oklahoma product is also the best finisher, saying, “It has to be Williams, given his play demeanor and rare physical tools. He’s looking to bury defenders on every snap.”

That is some high praise for Williams from Bowen as there are a lot of excellent offensive linemen in the NFL currently. But, he is a cut above the rest, at least in those two categories, mixing a nasty streak with elite athleticism and power that not many players can contend with.
