The Denver Broncos find themselves at a pivotal juncture as they strategize their quarterback situation for the upcoming season. With Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci currently comprising their quarterback roster, Head Coach Sean Payton faces uncertainty as he approaches his second season with the team.

While the Broncos aim to secure a quarterback in the upcoming draft, the competitive landscape presents challenges in acquiring a top-tier prospect. This scenario might lead them to consider drafting a quarterback with less heralded credentials from college.

Should the Broncos fail to secure a Week 1 starter through the draft, they must bolster their roster with sufficient talent to facilitate a rigorous competition for the QB1 position.

Bucky Brooks, a former NFL cornerback, suggests that trading for Zach Wilson could inject intensity into Denver’s quarterback battle during the summer.

“If Wilson can handle Payton’s hard-nosed coaching and ‘tough love’ approach, he could maximize his potential under an offensive-minded tutor who understands the position and how to build around the strengths of his quarterback’s game.”

The opportunity to acquire Wilson arises due to the New York Jets’ mismanagement, which could potentially enable the Broncos to secure him at a reasonable cost.

Wilson’s struggles in the previous season were exacerbated by the ineffective management of offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who initially designed the offense for Aaron Rodgers. Payton’s previous criticism of Hackett’s coaching during the 2022 season adds an intriguing layer to the potential acquisition.

Despite the Jets’ anticipated willingness to trade Wilson at a loss, with the burden of his $5 million salary for the 2024 season and their admission that he may not be fit for an NFL backup role, a trade scenario remains viable.

Payton, who grappled with his own quarterback challenges as the Denver Broncos incurred significant expenses to witness Russell Wilson play for the Pittsburgh Steelers, could capitalize on this opportunity to secure value in a potential trade for Zach Wilson.
