2. Daniel Jones Rips Apart 49ers’ Defense
A critical element to the 49ers’ success last season was the dynamic impact their defense was able to provide as a unit. Without so many foundational players in the lineup, San Francisco won’t have quite as much impact.
There may not be a quarterback that has gone up against tougher matchups to start the season than what Jones has faced. He had to go up against the Steelers in the Giants’ season-opener and then faced off with the Bears in Week 2. So far, he’s racked up 520 yards but has more picks (3) than touchdowns (2).
Without Barkley in the lineup to pressure the defense, Jones will face tougher conditions in the passing game. However, the 49ers have a depleted unit and it will be easier for the Giants QB to get the job done.
When Jones’ performance is finished, his stat line could feature totals in excess of 300 passing yards, three touchdowns, with one or fewer turnovers. It will be a turning point in his season — providing needed confidence to help carry the load.
