2. Tannehill Will Find Jonnu Smith Twice in the End Zone
While the Jaguars’ corners did a very good job containing the Colts wide receivers, they struggled to slow down tight ends and running backs. The play-action pass was one area, in particular, that Jacksonville had some trouble stopping last week.
The Titans are very good at setting up the play-action. With so much focus on Derrick Henry, the Titans will be able to find tight end Jonnu Smith twice in the end zone.
Smith is emerging as one of the NFL’s better tight ends. He has very good speed and is a big-bodied red-zone target. Typically, it takes tight ends a few years to get their footing in the NFL. Smith is on track for a big year this year. Against the Ravens in 2019, he flashed some of that talent with an incredible one-handed catch for a touchdown.
On the aforementioned play, Smith just bullies the smaller cornerback. He is a matchup nightmare because he’s too athletic for many linebackers. However, he is too big for cornerbacks. Tannehill and this Titans’ passing attack may lean on Smith this week. The payoff could be huge.
