3. Jaguars’ Rookies Will Step Up Again
Rarely do teams so reliant on their rookies to produce right away. However, the Jaguars seem to be betting on their young guys to produce. It paid off last week, and it will again this week. There will be a few mistakes, but overall this rookie class will play very well.
Last week, cornerback CJ Henderson was a standout player. He was the only rookie player to make PFF’s Week 1 Team of the Week. While Henderson had a standout performance, rookie receiver Laviska Shenault JR was the only rookie wideout to catch a touchdown pass last week.
Shenault may get another touchdown this week. The Jaguars did an excellent job spreading the ball around the field. This makes the offense very difficult to defend because defenses cannot key in on one player. Look at this beautifully drawn up play that capitalizes on Laviska’s athleticism and catches Colts safety Malik Hooker flat-footed.
One rookie whose name was not called much last week was defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson. While he did make some big tackles, and had an interception that was negated due to a penalty, Chaisson did not get to the QB once. However, he has a good shot at doing that this week. The Titans gave up 9 sacks in last season’s Week 3 loss to the Jaguars.
