5 reasons the Green Bay Packers will defeat Washington in Week 7

The Green Bay Packers will be hosting the Washington Football Team in Week 7 of the 2021 NFL season. The Packers have won five straight games after laying an egg in Week 1 versus the New Orleans Saints. The offense, led by Aaron Rodgers, seems to be finding its stride after a tumultuous offseason that witnessed plenty of trade rumors surrounding the All-Pro quarterback.

Washington has fallen to 2-4 on the season following a lopsided loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6. The Football Team held a 13-10 lead at halftime before the Chiefs proceeded to score 21 unanswered points to end the game.

With Green Bay and Washington set to square off on Sunday, here are five reasons why the Packers will defeat the Football Team in Week 7.

Aaron Rodgers Is Finding His Mojo Again

It was a disastrous start for the Packers in Week 1 as they would be trounced by the Saints, 38-3. The talk surrounding Green Bay was centered around Rodgers and his future with the organization, along with how the Packers could be in trouble in 2021.

Despite the criticism from outside sources, Rodgers has responded by throwing for 1,303 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only one interception in the past five weeks. Rodgers is making the plays we’re accustomed to him making, and it’s helped Green Bay secure five straight victories.

For a defense that is struggling to slow down opposing aerial attacks, that isn’t something that fans in Washington want to hear.

Aaron Jones/AJ Dillon Are Rolling Right Now

The rushing attack of the Packers has been a focal point of the offense like years past. Aaron Jones operates as the starter while AJ Dillon is serving as the change-of-pace option out of the backfield.

Whenever Jones is in the game, they tend to get him outside the tackles or in space, which is where he excels. As for Dillon, he is a bruising back that is at his best between the tackles, and he’s shown a capability to produce in the passing game this season.

If it’s not Jones having a good game, it seems as if Dillon is dominating on the ground. I expect at least one of the running backs on the Packers to be productive in Week 7.

Davante Adams Is Primed For Another Big Game

Whenever Rodgers is airing out the ball, the majority of his throws are going to be headed in the direction of No. 17. Davante Adams had 42 receptions, 579 yards, and two touchdowns on 61 targets before facing the Chicago Bears in Week 6. But in Week 6, Adams was held to four receptions for 89 yards on five targets.

Do I expect Adams to have two straight weeks where he is relatively quiet in the aerial attack? Absolutely not. Washington’s defense has surrendered plenty of big plays in the passing game, and I envision Adams delivering a few deep plays on Sunday.

Even with a reworked secondary, the Football Team won’t have any answers to slowing down Adams.

Taylor Heinicke Is Prone To Making Mistakes

Taylor Heinicke has performed solidly in relief of Ryan Fitzpatrick this season. What Heinicke does bring to Washington’s offense is an ability to create with his legs. However, at the same time, he’s made some mental errors in his five starts in 2021.

Along with his 1,268 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns in his five starts, Heinicke has thrown six interceptions. The last thing you want to do when playing an efficient quarterback like Rodgers is to give him more possessions in a game.

All the Packers need is for Heinicke to make one mistake for them to seize the momentum of the game.

Washington Is Shorthanded On Offense

Aside from Fitzpatrick, the Football Team is missing a few contributors on the offensive side of the ball. Logan Thomas is sidelined with a hamstring injury while Curtis Samuel has been nursing a groin injury. Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, and Dyami Brown have all been dinged up in recent weeks, so they are far from 100 percent healthy.

That isn’t an ideal spot to be in when your defense isn’t getting any stops and you are playing an offense like the Packers. In a game where their offense may need to keep up with Rodgers, having a couple of their main contributors sidelined or injured could come back to bite them.
