Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones scored the 63rd touchdown of his career during his team’s Week 9 win over the Los Angeles Rams, moving him past wide receiver Donald Driver for seventh place on the Packers’ all-time touchdowns list, via the team’s X account.
Jones carried the ball 20 times for 73 yards while adding four catches for 26 yards in the victory.
It has been a rough season for the 28-year-old, who injured his hamstring back in Week 1 and has missed three games because of it. Even when Jones has been on the field, he has clearly not been 100 percent, but head coach Matt LaFleur said he was ready to let his halfback loose this past Sunday. He certainly did, as Jones received nearly as many carries against the Rams as he did in his first four games combined (27).
On the season overall, Jones has rushed for 196 yards and a couple of scores while averaging four yards per tote. He has also logged 14 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Jones, who played his collegiate football at UTEP, was originally selected by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He rushed for 448 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign and followed that up by totaling 728 yards and eight scores on the ground in 2018. Most notably, Jones averaged a robust 5.5 yards per carry both seasons.
Jones then broke out in 2019, racking up 1,084 yards and a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns while recording 4.6 yards per tote. Additionally, he hauled in 49 receptions for 474 yards and three scores.
The Savannah, Ga. native proceeded to make his first Pro Bowl in 2020 after rattling off 1,104 yards and nine scores while registering 5.5 yards per carry.
Aaron Jones posted a career-high 1,121 rushing yards last season.
Green Bay snapped a four-game losing streak with its win over the Rams and now sits at 3-5 this year. The Packers will aim to build on their success when they battle the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday.
