Defense Needs More Sacks
The defense of the Chicago Bears could be one of the very best once again as they were fourth overall in yards allowed in 2019, but what hampered the Bears was their lack of quarterback sacks because they were average in that category a year ago.
The Bears totaled 32 sacks in 2019, tying them for 16th overall with the now-Las Vegas Raiders, and with some of the players the Bears have on their defense, 32 total sacks don’t cut it.
The goal for the Bears in 2020 needs to be to do whatever it takes to make Khalil Mack the best he can be, because 8.5 sacks as one of the most talented pass rushers in the NFL isn’t enough. Though Mack led the Bears in sacks a season ago, he recorded three fewer than he did in 2018 when he had 12.5 sacks.
This defense will be fine if they just pressure the football more. They have players like Akiem Hicks, Roquan Smith and the newly acquired Robert Quinn, so there is great potential to add to the overall team sack total, and that needs to be a top priority for the Bears defense this season.
