The Cincinnati Bengals are one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now as their victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past weekend was their sixth in a row. A big reason that they have found so much success recently has been the performance of their quarterback, Joe Burrow.
The Bengals have been without running back Joe Mixon, wide receivers JaâMarr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd and tight end Hayden Hurst for periods throughout the winning streak. Despite not always having his full complement of weapons throughout the winning streak, Burrow has found a ton of success.
He has been a touchdown machine, throwing for four touchdown passes twice with 14 total touchdown passes in the six games. Burrow has also added two rushing touchdowns for good measure as Cincinnatiâs offense has been rolling.
The prolific scoring display has also put Burrow in a very exclusive club. The four touchdown passes this past weekend against the Buccaneers gives him 78 so far in his career, to go along with 10 rushing scores.
According to NFL on CBS, there has been only one other quarterback to reach those numbers in his first three seasons in the NFL; Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts. Luck was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He threw for 83 touchdowns and rushed for 12 in the first three seasons of his career.
It is easy to see why the Colts have been such a mess at the quarterback position since Luck unexpectedly retired ahead of the 2019 season. He was just entering the prime of his career when he stepped away, leaving a huge void in Indianapolisâ lineup.
Accomplishing this feat after playing in only 10 games as a rookie because of injury and throwing for 13 touchdowns is quite remarkable from Joe Burrow. Joining this club after only 40 games while also recovering from a torn ACL in between is an impressive feat for the No. 1 overall pick from the 2020 NFL Draft.
