The Buffalo Bills suffered another brutal loss in Week 10, this time on Monday Night Football to the Denver Broncos. Looking to shake things up, the team has decided to fire offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey less than 24 hours after the loss.

Replacing Dorsey as offensive coordinator will be Joe Brady. Brady has experience from his time with the Carolina Panthers under Matt Rhule in 2020 and 2021, but his success was lacking. He was considered one of the up-and-coming offensive coaches in the NFL as the passing game coordinator for an elite LSU team in 2019.

Dorsey took over as the offensive coordinator in 2022, being elevated from quarterback’s coach to replace Brian Daboll, who was hired as head coach of the New York Giants. While the Bills remained an elite unit under Dorsey, finishing second in points and yardage last season and being in the top 10 of both categories again this season, something just felt off without Daboll.

The statistics look great on paper, but consistency has been fleeting. Against the Broncos, the Bills turned the ball over four times, with quarterback Josh Allen being responsible for three of them.

Allen has struggled once again with turnovers this season as he leads the NFL with 13 total and 11 interceptions. Injuries could be playing a part, but he has not looked the same without Daboll leading the offense.

Ultimately, Dorsey isn’t the one putting the ball in harm’s way. He is calling the balls but execution and ball security on the field come down to the players. Dorsey also isn’t making personnel decisions, as the team’s lack of weapons in the passing game beyond Stefon Diggs has been tough to overcome.

Alas, it is Dorsey who is being used as the scapegoat for the team’s shortcomings and Allen’s turnover woes. It will be interesting to see what changes Brady makes and if he can unlock something that has been missing throughout the 2023 season.
