1. Supporting cast
Last offseason, the Browns front office did everything they could to surround Baker Mayfield with the best weapons they could get their hands on. Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Kareem Hunt, Nick Chubb, and David Njoku is about as good a supporting cast as you’ll find in the NFL.
There was only issue, the front office neglected to put together an adequate line in front of Baker. Mayfield ended up getting sacked 36 times last year because of it.
New general manager Andrew Berry realized this fatal flaw and addressed it accordingly this offseason, signing free agent tackle Jack Conklin and drafting tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. with their first round pick. Their line should be dramatically improved with these two anchors.
The team also acquired tight end Austin Hooper, who will allow Stefanski to run a lot of two tight end sets. Last season while the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, Stefanski used two tight end sets on 46.3% of their plays, the most of any offense in the league.
No one can argue that Baker doesn’t have enough around him to succeed. He has more than nearly every quarterback in the NFL.
