3 reasons Baker Mayfield will have a bounce-back year in 2020

3. 2019 was an outlier for Mayfield

If we look back at the last four seasons of Baker Mayfield playing football, it’s hard not to love the tape. It’s just that his most recent year is by far his worst, which leads to a little recency bias.

Yes, college football is not the NFL, but we shouldn’t just disregard some of the outstanding play he had during his time as a collegiate athlete. You can still diagnose tendencies and certain skills from watching college tape, and a lot of what Baker was good at in college has translated to the NFL.

The hype and high expectations were bound to lead to disappointment last season. This time around, those same expectations won’t be nearly as prevalent.

Mayfield has all the tools to make 2020 a special season for Browns fans. We’ll just have to wait to see if he can deliver.
