Buffalo Bills Linked To Intriguing Free Agent Defender

The Buffalo Bills have a soft spot in their secondary thanks to a season-ending Achilles injury to cornerback Tre’Davious White.

It marks the second time in three years that White has been lost for the year due to an injury, as he also tore his ACL back in 2021.

As a result, the Bills may want to look to add a defensive back in free agency this coming offseason, and Bleacher Report’s NFL staff sees the perfect target: Chicago Bears corner Jaylon Johnson.

Johnson is set to be a free agent this spring, and considering he asked the Bears for a trade earlier this season, it stands to reason that he could be playing his football elsewhere in 2024.

Chicago attempted to move Johnson before the Oct. 31 trade deadline, but it failed to find a deal that it thought was suitable.

Johnson has played in nine games this season and has logged 25 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a forced fumble, five passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Utah, was selected by the Bears in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He instantly stepped in as a starter in Chicago’s secondary and did an admirable job right off the bat, registering 44 tackles and 15 passes defended in 13 games during his rookie campaign.

While Johnson has yet to make a Pro Bowl, he has stamped his name among the more underrated cornerbacks in football when he is on the field.

The operative part of that sentence is “when he is on the field.”

Johnson has yet to play a full season since entering the league, topping out at 15 games out of a possible 17 during the 2021 campaign.

The Bills are 6-5 this season and have been one of the NFL’s most disappointing teams. They will take on the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.
