Stop me if you have heard this before, but Tom Brady won another divisional title during the 2022 NFL season. He helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finish first in the NFC South, but this season was unlike any other in Brady’s career.
For the first time in his career, Tom Brady finished with a losing record. Despite winning their division, Tampa Bay went 8-9 in what was a tumultuous, up-and-down season. You just have to make the dance to have a chance to win it and no one should be overlooking a Brady-led team even after the season that they had.
This offseason, a lot of eyes will be on Tom Brady. His contract is up and speculation about where he could play next has already run rampant. The Buccaneers would certainly love to have him back as they don’t currently have a contingency plan in place. Unless that is, they believe Kyle Trask, a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is ready to take over the starting job. He made his NFL debut in Week 18 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Brady could opt to retire after what was the worst season, record-wise, in his career. But, he still led the NFL in completions and pass attempts, so there is something left despite being 45 years old. Set to hit free agency, there will undoubtedly be suitors for him.
One team that CBS Sports believes will have Tom Brady on their radar is the Miami Dolphins. It would be a move years in the making as the Dolphins were punished quite heavily for tampering with Brady in 2020 before he ended up joining the Buccaneers.
This is a franchise that has pursued him before, so it makes sense from that perspective. But, their quarterback situation has gotten murky with the health of Tua Tagovailoa. He has been placed in concussion protocol twice this season with documented head injuries, the first of which was a scary scene in Cincinnati on Thursday Night Football.
If it is deemed that Tagovailoa isn’t fit to return, the Dolphins will need to make a move for a quarterback. This is a very talented roster and Mike McDaniel succeeded in his first season as head coach when Tagovailoa was healthy. Adding someone of Tom Brady’s caliber, should the need for a replacement arise, would be a great move for Miami.
