Chicago Bears: 3 Bold Predictions for the 2018 NFL Season

Mitch Trubisky throws for the most yards in the NFC North

Yes, with all the changes to the offense the popular thing to predict is that Mitch Trubisky becomes the next Jared Goff. He has the receivers, the running game, and an improved offensive line. I agree that he’ll take a big leap.

This is a bold prediction piece, though, so let’s be bold. I think Trubisky surpasses Aaron Rodgers in yards this season.

Yes, I know that the NFC North has some very good quarterbacks. The Detroit Lions have Matthew Stafford; the Minnesota Vikings have Kirk Cousins, and the Green Bay Packers have Rodgers. However, Trubisky will surpass them in yards this season. Part of this will be because of regression by the other players.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Trubisky is better than all or any of them. I just think he’ll have a phenomenal season. The others have a track record to go on. What Trubisky does in the future is on him. For this season, though, there is a lot of pressure on him. If he plays well, it bodes well for the future of the franchise. If he stumbles, it could spell trouble for Pace, who put a lot on him. Pace traded away a ton of valuable picks (though he recovered some back) to move up one spot to grab him in the 2017 NFL Draft. Also, this offseason’s biggest priority was to make sure Trubisky succeeded.

I feel good about the kid. He had a coach who really didn’t believe in him last year. John Fox was a run-first type of coach, and he disliked using rookies in key positions. He had a short leash on Trubisky. Even so, Trubisky showed flashes of how good be could become. He used his legs well. He threw well on the run and he did a good job of tucking the ball and running when he needed.

Trubisky further shows his abilities this season. A lot of the balls that fell to the ground last year because of the sub-par receivers find their way into good hands this year. Furthermore, with a good ground game to help the receivers even more, Trubisky should go off in 2018.

Prediction: 3,876 passing yards, 327 yards rushing, 32 touchdowns, 12 interceptions
