Justin Fields may be playing out his final days as a member of the Chicago Bears, but the young quarterback isn’t allowing the trade chatter to get to him.
When asked about all of the trade rumors surrounding him with just two games remaining in the regular season, Fields took the high road.
“I’ve got goo much to focus on today to worry about tomorrow,” Fields said, via Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic.
The Bears will likely end up with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, as they own the Carolina Panthers’ first-rounder. As a result, many are expecting Chicago to take one of the top young quarterbacks—like USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye—in April, which would spell the end of Fields’ tenure in the Windy City.
Of course, if that is what the Bears plan on doing, they will almost certainly move Fields before then.
Fields, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by Chicago with the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He endured a rough rookie campaign, appearing in 12 games with 10 starts and throwing for 1,870 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 58.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 73.2. He also rushed for 420 yards and a couple of scores, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
Then, last year, Fields showed some progression in 15 contests, finishing with 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 picks while completing 60.4 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 85.2. In addition, he racked up 1,143 yards and eight scores on the ground, logging a league-high 7.1 yards per attempt.
This season, Fields has been limited to 11 games due to a dislocated thumb that caused him to miss four contests in the middle of the season. During the time he has been on the field, he has thrown for 2,146 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine picks. He has completed 60.9 percent of his passes while recording an 84.5 passer rating. Plus, he has tallied 585 yards and three scores as a rusher.
Justin Fields has shown enough to command decent value in a trade. We’ll see what the Bears can get for him if—and when—they opt to move him this offseason.
