2. Add Veteran Running Back
The Chiefs had Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy in the backfield during their championship run. McCoy left in free agency for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while Williams decided to opt-out of the 2020 season. This left the Chiefs in need of a back in the draft. They decided on Edwards-Helaire and he will be the starter with a great workload as a rookie.
After the LSU product, there is not much depth. Darrel Williams will be back along with DeAndre Washington and Darwin Thompson. Kansas City signed McCoy late in camp last year after he was released by the Bills. They could do the same this season.
Edwards-Helaire is the clear starter but as a rookie, he will need some pressure taken off. This is where a veteran can be a teaching voice and help the rookie adjust to the league.
Reid has always been a coach who likes to use his running backs. As of now, he does not have many options outside of his first round draft pick. This is where a veteran would come into play.
