Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to amaze year after year, and it seems like every other week, he is breaking another NFL record.

On Thursday night against the Denver Broncos, Mahomes achieved yet another incredible feat.

As a result of the Chiefs’ 19-8 win, Mahomes pushed his career record to 12-0 against the Broncos, making him the first quarterback since Otto Graham back in the 1950s to win his first 12 games against an individual opponent (h/t OptaSTATS).

Mahomes went 30-for-46 with 306 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the victory as Kansas City improved to 5-1 on the season.

NFL NEWS & STATS: Patrick Mahomes & Kansas City Chiefs Updates

The 28-year-old’s dominance over Denver dates back to his rookie campaign with the Chiefs back in 2017, when Mahomes won his lone start of the season over the Broncos in Week 17. Mahomes was serving as Alex Smith’s backup at the time. But oddly enough, Mahomes has not looked quite himself this season overall.

Through the first six games of 2023, Mahomes has thrown for 1,593 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 68.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 95.7. While those are hardly bad numbers, they represent Mahomes’ lowest passer rating since he became a full-time starter in his second season.

Thursday night’s contest marked just the second time all year that Mahomes eclipsed 300 yards passing in a game, and over the last three weeks, the Texas Tech product has totaled three touchdowns and three picks.

In Mahomes’ defense, the Chiefs have a very thin receiving corps this season, resulting in some rather shaky offensive performances for the club.

Week 6 represented the second time this season that Kansas City was held to under 20 points, and if you remove the team’s 41-10 blowout win over the Chicago Bears in Week 3, the Chiefs are averaging just 21.2 points per game.

Still, Kansas City keeps winning, and it will aim to collect its sixth straight victory when it takes on the Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday.
