The Indianapolis Colts knew that they were taking a risk when they named Anthony Richardson their starting quarterback in training camp. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft was oozing with potential but was considered a raw prospect by many, with work to do in the passing game.

To this point, the team has to be thrilled with the production that he is providing. He is holding his own as a passer. Despite completing only 56.9 percent of his passes in three starts with 459 yards, he has thrown three touchdowns with only one interception.

Where Anthony Richardson is really making his presence felt is on the ground running the ball. The Colts are using his athleticism to their advantage, making it a big part of their game plan to use his legs and play to his strengths.

In three games, the Florida product is averaging 43.7 yards, carrying the ball 23 times for 131 yards. He has scored four rushing touchdowns, which has put his name into the league’s history books.

According to George Bremer, CNHI Sports Indiana executive director, Anthony Richardson has become the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era with four rushing touchdowns in his first three starts. He is also the fifth player with those numbers at any position since 2000.

The Colts are putting Anthony Richardson in a position to succeed early on, leaning into his strengths as a runner. Anything else that he provides the team through the air is an added bonus as the franchise knows that he has work to do in that area.

Already able to impact the game in a positive manner despite not being close to his ceiling, the future is bright in Indianapolis. Head coach Shane Steichen looks on his way to turning Anthony Richardson into a dominant weapon much as he did with Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles as their offensive coordinator.
