Upgrade Over Robert Quinn

There was plenty of concern surrounding how the Dallas Cowboys would be able to overcome the loss of pass-rusher Robert Quinn. When he departed for the Chicago Bears to sign a five-year, $70 million deal, there weren’t many backup options.

Now, the Cowboys will not have to worry about losing Quinn. Instead, they will actually be upgrading at this position with the signing of Everson Griffen to fill the right defensive end spot.

The main drawback of relying on Quinn as focal point on the edge is his inability to make an impact in run defense. This is an area where Griffen is going to provide a noticeable and needed upgrade for the Cowboys while still receiving quality pass rush contributions.

This is simply a savvy example of maneuvering by the Cowboys front office. They land Griffen on a bargain one-year deal as opposed to paying Quinn. Meanwhile, they still will land a compensation pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
