Form Impressive Pass Rush Duo

Having just one high-level pass-rusher makes it simpler for opposing teams to game-plan. That was the case for Demarcus Lawrence and the Dallas Cowboys during the 2019 season.

There has been a steady decline in Lawrence’s sack totals and general pass-rush counting stats since his breakout 2017 campaign. During that year, he finished with 14.5 sacks and 26 QB hits in 16 performances. His totals went down to 10.5 sacks and 23 QB hits in 2018 and ultimately to 5.0 sacks and 16 QB hits last season.

The lower volume totals Lawrence achieved in 2019 have resulted in real criticism, but there’s more to consider. As Reid Hanson of Sports DFW pointed out, Lawrence finished with No. 3 in pass rush win rate.

Having a talent like Everson Griffen opposite of Lawrence will help apply pressure on the quarterback. Lawrence has remained highly successful in block shedding and now teams will have to account for a reliable pass-rush on both edges of the Cowboys’ defensive line.
