The Dak-Zeke Combo
In their rookie years, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott proved to be a dynamic duo that could win a lot of ball games together. Unfortunately, the former Buckeye was suspended, and the Cowboys felt the consequences. The team fell apart after Zeke endured his suspension. The offense went from a potential top-end unit to one of the worst in football very quickly. While a significant portion of this is due to injuries, a lack of chemistries, and a sophomore slump from Mr. Prescott, the Elliott absence played the largest role.
Now, Elliott is back to aid the offense he abandoned a year before. Losing Dez Bryant hurts, but it should lead to more opportunities from the former fourth overall selection. The running game has always aided Prescott, who will look to return to his rookie form. If he gets back to his strengths– keeping the ball safe, distributing the ball to his backs, and letting his offensive line do the work for him– then his Cowboys offense could be lethal. There aren’t many elite QB-RB duos in the NFL, but Dak and Zeke can cement themselves towards the top of that list with a solid season this year.
Why This Helps Them Compete
A strong run game has been the core of the Cowboys for many years now. This staple of their offense keeps their defense off the field and their opponent off the board. Controlling games is huge, especially come playoff time, and without a duo like Prescott and Elliott, it is near impossible to pull off. This offense won’t function without a competent quarterback or running back play. The two complete each other and reap the benefits of each other’s success.
