Cowboys Predicted To Trade Dak Prescott In Blockbuster Deal

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are currently locked in a contract stalemate with quarterback Dak Prescott, which has inevitably fueled some trade speculation.

Will the Cowboys trade Prescott? Probably not, but it’s fun to think about, and K.D. Drummond of Cowboys Wire suggests that Dallas trades Prescott to the Las Vegas Raiders.

So, what type of return does Drummond imagine in this exchange?

He has the Raiders sending the Cowboys young signal-caller Aidan O’Connell as well as the 13th overall pick, a second-rounder and a fourth-rounder this year. The Cowboys would also receive a 2025 first-round pick, a 2025 third-rounder and a 2026 second-rounder.

That way, Dallas instantly lands a quarterback to replace O’Connell in Prescott and some significant draft capital to help add pieces to the roster.

Prescott is entering the final year of his deal and is rumored to be searching for $60 million annually with his next contract.

That is a number the Cowboys seem unwilling to match, which is why there have been reports that Dallas is planning on playing out the 2024 campaign and allowing Prescott to hit free agency next offseason.

The Cowboys seem to be banking on the idea that no other teams will offer Prescott the money he wants and, in turn, would then be able to retain him on a cheaper deal.

Prescott is coming off of a spectacular 2023 season in which he led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes to go along with 4,516 yards and just nine interceptions. He completed 69.5 percent of his throws and registered a passer rating of 105.9 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. He also finished second in MVP voting.

However, Prescott put forth a rather meager performance in Dallas’ Wild Card Round playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers, running his career postseason record to just 2-5.

The Cowboys will almost surely hold on to Dak Prescott at least through next season, but expect more trade proposals to surface between now and Week 1.
