As the NFL prepares for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, there are still quite a few moves to be made in free agency and on the trade market. Two teams to keep an eye on will be the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets, who have both been very active this offseason thus far. A player that could be moved prior to the NFL Draft is Jets’ quarterback Zach Wilson.

Wilson was drafted with the No. 2 overall pick back in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was expected to be the long-term franchise quarterback for the Jets. Unfortunately, those expectations have not been lived up to.

It seems very likely that the Jets will end up trading Wilson before or during the draft this year. A team like the Chiefs could make perfect sense as a fit.

Andy Reid and company could use another backup behind Patrick Mahomes. Bringing in a talent like Zach Wilson could make sense.

Behind Mahomes, Wilson could develop and finally start reaching his potential. If he does, he could be a starting NFL quarterback in the future. At the very least, he could give Kansas City some valuable depth in a worst-case scenario injury situation involving Mahomes.

Let’s dive in and take a look at how a trade between the Chiefs and Jets could look involving Wilson.

Kansas City Chiefs Receive: Zach Wilson

New York Jets Receive: 2024 Sixth-Round Pick

For the Chiefs, this would be a no-brainer kind of move. Being able to acquire a former No. 2 overall pick just a few years back for a sixth-round pick would be a steal. Wilson has shown enough to be viewed as a decent backup for Mahomes as well.

On the flip side of the deal, the Jets would be unloading a player that doesn’t want to be in New York. They also don’t want to keep him around if they can get some kind of value for him.

Granted, this is just a hypothetical trade idea, but it’s one that makes sense. The Chiefs should be viewed as a serious suitor for Wilson with their need for a better backup quarterback. Zach Wilson could revitalize his career playing behind an all-time great like Mahomes.
