Trade for Robert Griffin III
The Denver Broncos aren’t really sitting snug at the backup QB position. As of now, they currently have their former first-round pick in Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly, the last pick of this year’s draft behind Case Keenum. Kelly is more than likely to win the backup role for now, forcing Lynch to be the odd man out. This preseason Kelly has by far been the better QB. This makes things look very bleak for Lynch.
Lynch has been disappointing for the Broncos since being the Broncos first round pick just a couple years ago. He was brought in to be the hopeful successor to Peyton Manning. Those plans have quickly diminished, as he is now fighting for a roster spot. Kelly, on the other hand, is a talented QB who will need time to develop his skills as a signal caller. Understandably so, as he was Mr. Irrelevant (last player picked) in this years NFL Draft.
The Broncos without a doubt could use a backup QB that is more reliable and more ready than Kelly. Hence, making a trade for Robert Griffin III becomes an interesting possibility. I know RG3 has gone through his share of injuries, but he still has talent to be a backup QB, at the least. Griffin isn’t the same QB he used to be (we’ll never know how good he could have been). You can tell Griffin has been humbled by everything he’s been through the past few years.
Griffin signed this offseason with the Baltimore Ravens. With the Ravens drafting Lamar Jackson, it made it tougher on Griffin to solidify a roster spot for himself. Baltimore could look to move Griffin if any teams are interested. The Ravens won’t get a huge return for Griffin, if any, but a sixth or seventh round pick should suffice. If you’re the Broncos why wouldn’t you want to assure security behind Keenum, with a veteran QB who knows the ins and outs of the NFL?
