Could Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry end up signing with the Miami Dolphins in free agency?

He may have dropped some clues in a recent appearance on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast.

While speaking to former teammates Taylor Lewan and Will Compton on the podcast, Henry said that he actually wanted to play in South Beach when he first entered the NFL back in 2016.

“I wanted to go to Miami. I wanted to play for the Dolphins,” Henry said. “That’s where I wanted to go. That’s where I thought I was going.”

Of course, Henry was ultimately selected by the Titans in the second round of the draft.

Henry is slated to hit free agency this offseason, and while he may not be the same elite rusher he was several years ago, he will still be one of the top halfbacks on the open market.

So, could Henry take his talents to Miami this spring?

Well, there may be a couple of snags that would prevent it from happening.

First and foremost, the Dolphins’ salary cap situation is miserable. Miami is $51 million over the cap heading into the offseason, meaning it will have to clear some money to even think about signing free agents.

Second, if the Dolphins do plan on signing a running back, they may just be better off re-signing Raheem Mostert, who is coming off of a superb 2023 campaign in which he led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns. Miami also has De’Von Achane in its backfield, so its not like the ground game is a pressing need for the club.

If Derrick Henry is going to join the Dolphins, it would likely have to be on a very cheap contract. Plus, there are other contending teams who could probably offer him a larger role, anyway.

We’ll see how things shape up in March.
