Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff defeated his former Los Angeles Rams club in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs two weeks ago, and with an NFC Championship Game matchup against the San Francisco 49ers looming, Goff took the opportunity to praise Lions fans…while taking a shot at the Rams in the process.

Earlier this week at a Detroit Red Wings game, a “Jared Goff” chant broke out in the arena, and Goff really appreciated the admiration.

“Yeah, that was pretty cool,” Goff said Friday, via Tony Paul of The Detroit News. “Pretty fun to be a part of a city that cares so much.”

Hmm, so is that a shot at Los Angeles?

Seems like it, especially when you take into account how Goff answered the question when asked if his run to the Super Bowl with the Rams during the 2018-19 campaign compares to this one in Detroit.

“Not like this,” Goff said. “This is a little different. These fans are unbelievable. I expect to see a lot of them this weekend.”

Goff was originally selected by Los Angeles with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent the first five years of his career with the Rams, making back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2017 and 2018.

However, his last couple of years in LA were rather underwhelming, which resulted in the Rams trading Goff to the Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford in March 2021.

Clearly, Goff still harbors some ill will toward his previous team for trading him, but it shouldn’t bother him anymore. He beat the Rams in the process of getting to this point, and now, he has a chance to lead the Lions to their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.

Jared Goff threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.9 during the regular season.
