Why should Jordan Howard be considered a steal?

It wasn’t long ago Jordan Howard finished as the NFL’s second-leading rusher. He is still only 25-years-old, meaning there is a lot of good football left in him. Especially when considering he is set to have an opportunity with the Miami Dolphins he simply hasn’t had in recent seasons.

While in Chicago, Howard had two consecutive seasons over 1,000 yards. He wasn’t as productive in 2018, however, the Bears’ offense was one-dimensional with Mitchell Trubisky. After one season under 1,000 yards, Chicago let Howard go.

Howard was successful with the Eagles. While last season was his career-low in rushing yards, it was Howard’s second-highest YPC average of his career. If given more opportunities, Howard would have been just as productive. Philadelphia had two backs with a lot of talent and gave rookie Miles Sanders a majority of the carries. Howard leaving the Eagles made sense for both parties.

Signing with Miami made perfect sense for both parties. The Dolphins got a low-risk high-reward player. Howard signed for a relatively cheap $4,875,000. Howard is going to once again compete for touches.

Matt Breida is a smaller scatback who will not be able to handle a large majority of touches. Howard is likely going to touch the ball at least 15 times a game, giving him about 240 rushing attempts on the year.

Jordan Howard is a very decisive runner. He finds a hole and explodes through it. The Dolphins run a combination of zone and power run plays. This helps keep defenses on edge because they won’t know what to expect. Reggie Bush, Ricky Williams, and Frank Gore are just a few backs who signed with Miami to rejuvenate their careers. Jordan Howard could be the next veteran back to find success in South Beach.
