Michigan’s victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship may still be fresh in our memories, but ESPN is already looking ahead to the 2024 college football season with their “way-too-early” Top 25 ranking. Despite the absence of the confetti cleanup, discussions about the upcoming season are in full swing. The Georgia Bulldogs’ fans have been waiting to see where their team will land.

The rankings, as expected, feature powerhouse programs near the top. However, one notable inclusion is the Georgia Bulldogs, who are poised for a comeback after missing the CFP for the first time in three years.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach is particularly optimistic about their prospects.

UGA stands tall at the number one spot in these early rankings, ahead of the rising Texas Longhorns and the reigning champion Michigan Wolverines. What’s driving this optimism? Head coach Kirby Smart’s impressive recruiting efforts are a significant factor, with the Bulldogs securing the top-ranked class for 2024, building on their second-ranked class in 2023.

Schlabach also anticipates that senior quarterback Carson Beck will play a pivotal role in Georgia’s success.

“The winning might not slow down with starting quarterback Carson Beck opting to return for his senior season. His experience will be invaluable during a 2024 schedule that kicks off with a high-stakes opener against Clemson in Atlanta.”

While they will bid farewell to tight end Brock Bowers as he heads to the NFL, the Bulldogs have made a significant acquisition by snagging Florida running back Trevor Etienne from the transfer portal. Etienne, who boasted 753 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in his last season with the Gators, is expected to make an immediate impact for UGA.

Texas secures the second spot in the rankings, followed by Oregon at number three and Alabama at number four. On the other hand, Michigan is projected to face a challenging season ahead, with uncertainties surrounding Jim Harbaugh’s future as head coach, landing them at the sixth spot. Washington, meanwhile, faces a significant drop to the eleventh position, largely due to the departure of key players like Michael Penix Jr., Rome Odunze, and Ja’Lynn Polk.
