AJ Terrell was considered one of the top corners in the 2020 NFL Draft after a dominating year with Clemson–prompting the Atlanta Falcons to select him in the first round. That is, of course, until he played in the National Championship Game.
Terrell was supposed to guard LSU’s star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, but they never really happened. Chase had his way with Terrell securing 9 receptions for 221 total yards and 2 touchdowns. Ouch.
Ever since that moment, the draft talk around Terrell centered on how good he was throughout the season, but how bad he was when he played on the biggest stage. Concerns about not facing top competition and shrinking under the lights crept in and scared many teams away from drafting him in the first round.
The Falcons never wavered and decided he was the player they had to have with the 16th pick. They selected him amid criticism but feeling that they made the right choice with their selection.
Only time will truly tell, but here are some reasons where the Atlanta Falcons were absolutely right to select A.J. Terrell.
