Terrell Has Playmaking Ability
A knock on AJ Terrell is that he tries to make the spectacular play too often, rather than just breaking up the pass. He seems just as likely to come down with an interception as he is to whiff and let the receiver come down with the ball. This is something that Atlanta saw and feel like they can tweak to make it work in their favor.
In a division with so many great offenses deflecting the ball usually just gives these quarterbacks one more attempt to find a receiver. Taking the ball out of their hands is usually the way teams win. Whether that is by running the ball, or having a productive offense, the best way to stop Tom Brady is to not let Tom Brady have the ball.
A game-changing way of doing this is making spectacular plays on defense to force turnovers. As Terrell adjusts to the NFL he is going to miss some plays where he should have just knocked the ball away, but Atlanta is betting that he will grab some interceptions that would normally have gone away too.
If the Falcons can improve on their turnover margin last year (-.03 per game) they get the ball back in the hands of their explosive offense. The gamble is that Terrell misses on less plays than he makes.
