This stat shows Falcons QB Matt Ryan has become underrated
The excellence Peyton Manning provided both the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos during his NFL career caused many changes to the league record book. Managing to achieve something that has been done only by such a transcendent talent puts Ryan into great company, to say the least.
According to CBS Sports HQ, Ryan is joined by only Manning when it comes to quarterbacks in NFL history with at least 50,000 passing yards and 300 passing touchdowns through 12 seasons.
Failing to win a Super Bowl certainly limits ones standing among the best in NFL history for any player, but perhaps more so for Ryan than for others. Especially when considering he built up a 28-3 lead during his lone trip to the league’s biggest stage and lost.
While failing to hold onto such a substantial lead in the Super Bowl is at the very least less than ideal, let’s not forget, Ryan has won an MVP award. That’s a feat that not even a quarterback like New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees has managed to achieve.
The career totals Ryan has managed to produce are nothing short of impressive. He already has 51,186 passing yards (10th) and 321 passing touchdowns (11th) and will likely move up one spot on each of those lists during the upcoming 2020 season.
When it’s all said and done, Matt Ryan will end up having one of the more productive careers for a quarterback in NFL history. He may not be one of the absolute best at his position to ever play, but he should be viewed in a greater light than the consensus.
