Fantasy Football outlook for wide receivers from the NFC South in 2020

At the wide receiver position for fantasy football in 2019, it was Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas in his own stratosphere – then everyone else far below him. Thomas’ season last year was truly out of this world. He set the NFL record for receptions in a season with 149, on a insane 185 targets. Thomas added in 1,725 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Those historic numbers translated to pure fantasy dominance. A whopping 374.6 PPR points, 98.5 more than the WR2 overall. Simply, if you had Thomas on your fantasy team last year there was a very good chance you took home a championship.

For 2020 not only is Michael Thomas the clear WR1 in fantasy, but an elite overall asset. Right now he has an ADP of 3.3 on ESPN, you need to be lucky in getting a top-three pick to secure Thomas this year. I wouldn’t expect another record-setting reception season again as new teammate Emmanuel Sanders should steal some targets. But Thomas is money-in-the-bank safe, and is good for 20+ fantasy points on a weekly basis.

Speaking of Emmanuel Sanders, the veteran wide receiver landed in New Orleans via free agency and gives the Saints a legit secondary receiver they have been missing for a long time. Sanders fits the Saints’ quick passing game perfectly. He’ll slide right in as Drew Brees’ third favorite target behind Thomas and Alvin Kamara.

Despite having to split time between two teams in 2019, Sanders still finished as WR30 in PPR. Right now his WR41 ADP on ESPN is awesome value. Sanders is a fine WR3 target with his new QB Brees and could be had at WR4 price.
