TEs to start in Week 2

Titans’ Jonnu Smith (vs. Jaguars): One of the late-round tight ends that receive a ton of attention this offseason was Jonnu Smith. Smith saw a healthy target share in Week 1, commanding seven targets, four receptions, 36 yards, and a touchdown.

After a matchup with the Broncos, Smith will get a chance to go up against the Jaguars in Week 2. Jacksonville’s defense surrendered six receptions for 69 yards in Week 1, making Smith a viable option this week.

Saints’ Jared Cook (vs. Raiders): Who is going to benefit the most from Michael Thomas missing multiple games for the New Orleans Saints? While Emmanuel Sanders and Tre’Quan Smith are popular choices, Jared Cook might see the largest increase in targets.

Cook finished with five receptions for 80 yards in Week 1 while garnering seven targets from Drew Brees. This week, Cook will get to play against his former team in the Las Vegas Raiders, which isn’t a team that should prevent you from playing TEs against them this season.

Other TEs to consider in Week 2: Steelers’ Eric Ebron (vs. Broncos), Buccaneers’ Rob Gronkowski (vs. Panthers), Bengals’ C.J. Uzomah (vs. Browns), Broncos’ Noah Fant (vs. Steelers)

TEs to sit in Week 2

Colts’ Jack Doyle (vs. Vikings): Yes, the Colts should see a much-improved performance from their offense in Week 2. However, it appears that Jack Doyle isn’t going to have a consistent role in the offense with the number of talented WRs Indianapolis has at their disposal.

Doyle had three receptions for 49 yards in Week 1 and he’s now likely a play that is reliant on him scoring touchdowns. It’s hard to see him scoring a touchdown against a Minnesota defense that features arguably the best safety duo in the NFL in Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris.

Bills’ Dawson Knox (vs. Dolphins): It was an impressive showing from Buffalo’s passing offense in Week 1 versus the Jets. But as lethal as the Bills and Josh Allen were through the air, Dawson Knox was extremely quiet in the box score.

Knox had just two catches for 26 yards against New York this past week and will now go up against the Dolphins. Until Knox proves to have a decent-sized role with the Bills this season, it’s worth sitting him on your bench — even against Miami’s defense.
