RBs to start in Week 2
Buccaneers’ Ronald Jones (vs. Panthers): The Carolina Panthers were one of the worst teams against RBs in 2019 and it appears that has carried over into 2020. To kickstart this season, the Panthers surrendered 46.6 fantasy football points to RBs versus the Las Vegas Raiders.
After Josh Jacobs ran rampant on Carolina’s measly run defense, Ronald Jones will get an opportunity to have a noteworthy game in Week 2. Despite the addition of Leonard Fournette, Jones out carried him 17 to five in Week 1, making Jones the RB to own in Tampa Bay — at least for right now.
Washington’s Antonio Gibson (vs. Cardinals): Much was made about who was going to be the RB to have a piece of for the Washington Football Team. Following the release of Adrian Peterson, it was Antonio Gibson and Peyton Barber who dominated the offensive snaps for Washington to begin the season.
While Barber had 17 carries to Gibson’s nine, Barber averaged a dismal 1.7 yards per attempt and scored two touchdowns. With that being said, as Washington faces an Arizona defense that surrendered nine receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns through the air to opposing RBs, Gibson is more likely to see the field more than Gibson in Week 2.
Other RBs to consider in Week 2: Ravens’ J.K Dobbins (vs. Texans), Ravens’ Mark Ingram (vs. Texans), Bills’ Zack Moss (vs. Dolphins), Browns’ Kareem Hunt (vs. Bengals), Colts’ Nyheim Hines (vs. Vikings)
RBs to sit in Week 2
Dolphins’ Jordan Howard (vs. Bills): The outlook of the Miami Dolphins’ backfield was clouded in Week 1 due to the emergence of Myles Gaskin. Even though the Dolphins spent resources on Jordan Howard and Matt Breida, it was Gaskin that led the Dolphins RBs with 13 touches for 66 yards.
Given the uncertainty of the roles in Miami’s backfield, none of them are currently in play as starting options in fantasy football. Not to mention, Howard and company face the Buffalo Bills, who held the Jets to 46 yards on 14 carries in Week 1.
Any Jets RB (vs. 49ers): Speaking of the Jets, it’s tough to get excited about any of their offensive weapons in Week 2. After an embarrassing showing in Week 1 against the Bills, New York will square off against the 49ers in the second week of the season.
While Le’Veon Bell is headed to injured reserve due to a hamstring ailment, Frank Gore, Lamical Perine, and Kalen Ballage are the RBs remaining on the depth chart. Gore will probably lead the pack, but San Francisco’s defense isn’t worth targeting on the ground — especially with New York’s putrid rushing attack.
