Former Dolphins’ CB Xavien Howard Angling Toward Texans Union

Could former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard join the Houston Texans?

The Dolphins cut Howard right before the start of free agency, and well over a week deep into the free-agent period, the four-time Pro Bowler is still available.

Howard is apparently being very choosy about where he lands, which is understandable given the fact that he is entering his ninth season and wants to contend for a Super Bowl.

During an appearance on The OGs podcast with former Miami Heat players Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller, Howard—a Houston native—said he would be very open to signing with the Texans.

“I would love to do that. Especially back at home, the crib,” Howard said. “I wouldn’t say I’ve always been a Houston Texans fan, but this offseason, I’m a Houston Texans fan. I’ve had it tatted on me. I even got the Houston Rockets and the Texans (logos) tatted on me.”

It should be noted that this podcast was filmed before free agency began, but was just uploaded this week.

Howard added that at this point of his career, it isn’t about the money; it’s about winning.

“I’d rather take a pay cut to go to a team that’s going to go further in the playoffs,” Howard said. “I got my money and stuff like that. I’m to the point, like, ‘How much money do you really need?'”

Houston would certainly qualify in that regard.

“My goal is always to try to win a Super Bowl,” Howard continued. “Don’t let the money get in the way of winning a Super Bowl. Some people get paid, and some people win a Super Bowl. Some people do both. You do both, you’re different. I want to be different. I want to win a Super Bowl now. I already got paid, so now (a Super Bowl) is what I’m looking forward to.”

The Texans went 10-7 and won the AFC South division title this past season. They then went on to defeat the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round.

Houston is one of the top up and coming teams in the NFL, so you can understand why Xavien Howard may want to link up with the squad.

We’ll see if there is a match between the two parties soon.
