The Green Bay Packers look to be hitting their stride. Their victory on the road against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day was an impressive one, as they went wire-to-wire against one of the best teams in the NFL.
It was the Packers’ second victory in a row and third in their last four games. That has pushed their record to 5-6 on the season, putting them squarely in the mix for a Wild Card spot in the NFC.
The youngest roster in the NFL has faced some obstacles this season, such as injuries to key contributors and lackluster performance in some areas, but they have weathered that storm. Head coach Matt LaFleur has been patient with them and is now beginning to see the fruits of their labor with improved performances on both sides of the ball.
With the team gelling, people are beginning to take notice of their performance. Can this squad make a late-season run at a playoff spot? Former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert certainly thinks so, as he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a hot take for their rest-of-season outlook.
“Hold up … do the Packers win out? Week 13 vs KC (winnable); Week 14 @ NYG (will win); Week 15 vs TB (should win); Week 16 @ CAR (will win); Week 17 @ MIN (should win); Week 18 vs CHI (will win),” wrote Benkert.
Finishing the season on an eight-game winning streak would be quite a feat for Green Bay. Winning that many games in a row is rare in the NFL, but the schedule is certainly in their favor given how well they have been playing.
The Kansas City Chiefs, at 8-3, are the only team left on their schedule that currently has a record above the .500 mark. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings are in the thick of the playoff race in the NFC as well, presenting good challenges for Green Bay. The New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears have one eye toward the 2024 offseason already.
Is it unlikely that the Packers will win all eight games? Certainly. But, weirder things have certainly happened than a team catching fire at the end of a season and rolling into the postseason.
If Jordan Love and the offense can continue playing at the level in which they have in recent weeks, anything is possible. This is a young team playing with house money as no one expected much from them in 2023, making them as dangerous as anyone down the stretch.
