The New York Giants are in a great spot to upgrade their roster this offseason. They have a healthy amount of cap space available to use in free agency and could open up even more with a few players agreeing to restructured contacts.

This is an important offseason for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll as their seats could start to heat up. After making the playoffs in Year 1, the team regressed in Year 2.

A big reason for that regression was their performance on offense. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a neck and ACL injury, derailing his season. But, when he was on the field, he wasn’t producing much, as he was outperformed by backup Tyrod Taylor.

The Giants are reportedly ready to move on from Jones, but whoever is under center for the team in 2023 could use an upgrade in the weapons around them. Finding a No. 1 receiver would be ideal for New York this offseason.

In the recent mock draft done by ESPN’s Jordan Reid, they fill both of those voids. With the No. 6 pick in the draft, Reid has mocked Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze to Big Blue. In the second round, at No. 39, they come away with Oregon quarterback, Bo Nix.

Odunze would provide the Giants with a true No. 1 receiver, moving their other pass-catchers down the pecking order into roles more suitable to their skill sets. Adding Odunze to a group that includes Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson would be a nice core moving forward.

That core could be working with Nix long-term. Instead of mortgaging some of their future by attempting to move up into the top-three, or selecting J.J. McCarthy at six, Reid believes the Giants will bide their time and come away with the Oregon star.

“The accuracy and decisiveness of Nix pairs well with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s scheme. Nix threw 45 TD passes and three interceptions in 2023 while completing 77.4% of his passes,” wrote Reid.

The icing on the cake for the Giants comes in the form of the No. 47 pick. That was originally owned by the Seattle Seahawks but was acquired in the trade for Leonard Williams ahead of the deadline in October.

With that selection, the Giants come away with a Willaims replacement, selecting defensive tackle Branden Fiske out of Florida State. A fast-rising prospect from his showing at the NFL Combine, Fiske has elite testing numbers and looks like someone who can pair well with All-Pro Dexter Lawrence in the middle of the defense.
