Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has been sidelined for the first three weeks of the season due to a hamstring injury.
But there is some good news on that front.
When asked if he would be playing in the Packers’ Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, Watson said “that’s the plan,” according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Watson, who played his collegiate football at North Dakota State, was originally selected by Green Bay in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The 24-year-old played in 14 games during his rookie campaign, catching 41 passes for 611 yards and seven touchdowns.
He was expected to represent Jordan Love‘s No. 1 target going into 2023, but obviously, his injury changed those plans. At least for now.
Christian Watson spent four seasons at North Dakota State, with his best year coming during his senior campaign when he hauled in 43 receptions for 801 yards and seven scores.
The Packers have gotten off to a surprisingly strong start, going 2-1 through the first three games. Most recently, Green Bay pulled off an incredible comeback win over the New Orleans Saints, emerging from Lambeau Field with an 18-17 victory after going into the fourth quarter trailing 17-0.
This is the first time since 2007 that the Packers have gone into a season without Aaron Rodgers under center, so expectations for the club were tempered going into the year.
However, Love has done a fine job guiding his team through the first several weeks, throwing for seven touchdowns and just one interception thus far.
Green Bay went 8-9 and missed the playoffs last season, marking just the third time the club failed to qualify for the postseason since 2009.
The Packers and Lions will be battling for first place in the NFC North when they clash this week.
